(This piece was first written as an ‘introduction’ to Cults before their performance at Laneway Singapore 2012)
I first heard of the band mid-2011 when practically every other music blog was recommending their single, ‘Go Outside’. Needless to say, Cults self titled debut was eagerly anticipated by many – and hit all the right parts with music critics and fans alike.
Their music tends to remind me of happy summers, bunnies and ice cream. Undoubtedly, Cults would definitely provide a ‘feel good’ and happy start to Laneway. Honestly, I think it would be apt if the sun shines during their set!
The band would probably perform fan favorites such as “Go Outside”, “Abducted” and “Oh My God”. Most of the tracks have a very 60′s vibe – enhanced with modern day effects and coupled with catchy (albeit rather dark) lyrics. Take a listen to the individual tracks on their site here – listen.
It is likely that they’ll perform “The Curse” as well – a track that wasn’t on their album. (Apparently, The Curse is a much older track – source) Take a listen to a simple yet fantastic live rendition of the track below!
